We looked at a lot of places (my wife being the diligent sensible type) but as soon as we met Martin and spent 5 minutes walking around the property and looking at the cottages we knew this would be the place.
The Owners, Martin and Nessie are fantastic for a start, whether you're going for a weekend with a big group or a family to celebrate a birthday, or indeed planning on having the big day on the upper field; they were approachable, always pleasant, always accommodating and very friendly. They left it completely up to us to plan and place our various things (marquees, skips, toilets) and at no point injected to tell us we couldn't do something.
If you are trying to plan a home made wedding that suits you, GO HERE; Martin and Nessie will let you have that.
They will give you a list of local companies that know the site (marquees, toilet, skip, catering hire etc. etc.) and offer good rates.
The Venue; HUGE field. Do what you want with it (well, don't salt the earth and set fire to it)!
We popped a marquee in it and made a village fete before having a ceilidh/disco/campfire until very, very late/early.
There is plenty of electric (we had lights, audio equipment, a band, a fridge, a coffee boiler, fridge trailer and didn't blow the circuits).
There is plenty of space, you could easily have a bigger wedding here; as it stands we had 110 guests and filled a quarter of the field with infrastructure, parking and camping.
Photo opportunities on the big day were plenty (including a labyrinth, funky wooden sculpture, flowers galore-courtesy of Martin and Nessie!!!)
The Accommodation; 3 cottages,10 bedrooms, all connected if you need them. With full self-catering facilities available (I managed to do our 3 tier wedding cake there the day before the wedding in one of the kitchens and was fine).
The rooms are lovely en suite (some shared bathrooms in some of the cottages) with car parking, BBQ, picnic benches outside, large tables, sofas, books, tvs, dvd players; the list is endless.
You can book a single cottage if you wish as well of course, as we did before the wedding, and this was absolutely fine.
Great place; really can't say enough we loved every minute of our wedding and a HUGE part of that was the venue and its owners!
Top Tip: recce the route there from wherever you are, the post code does not match up with some SatNavs (beyond the control of the property)
