Me & my partner are a young couple, we went to Gambia for the first time for 3 weeks, partly for charity, partly for a holiday & partly for an experience of a life time & it was definitely that!
Location - Not far from the food market & not too far from the supermarket, about an 8 min walk away from the Croc Pool where you can touch the famous Charlie, there are also lots of pretty birds there & the museum is worth a peek.
Room 6 is by far the best as it is self contained with its own kitchen, bathroom, toilet etc,
Don't think that the maid is bring rude, she is lovely, but she is not allowed to talk to you during her working hours, also her English isn't very good.
Little tip about room 6, the wardrobe next to the fridge/freezer has a key in it, it doesn't lock the wardrobe, but it locks the fridge... Which is useful for hiding your money if you feel the need!
kitchen is well equipped if you plan on cooking, if your room doesn't have something, you can take it from the shared kitchen.
If your hot water isn't on, you can ask the Commander and he will happily turn it on for you.
Over all, we really loved this guest house, we were sad to leave, but if we return next year, we will definitely make a booking to stay here.
It is perfect, it is in the REAL side of Gambia, in a perfect location for the beach, eateries etc & you are made to feel very welcome.
The beach is about 10 mins walk away along some sandy roads, it is gorgeous, although the sea is freezing, the sand is gorgeous.
Fruit ladies on the beach are angels, especially Aja, she is a very good friend (met her through our friend that has been doing charity work out there for the last 11 years)
Juice boys (the ones closest to the fruit ladies are the best) although they seem annoying, they are just trying to earn a living, all you have to say is "I will come to you when I am ready" they will remind you some days, but don't be pressured, just go when you are ready Daniel is sweet, he makes a delicious Pinapple & Grapefruit juice :-D
Weather is super hot in Feb/March,I didn't get bitten once at Kachikally, but the mozzies do come out after 7, but keep your door shut as much as possible after 6 - if you go out so make sure you "bop" the room and lather yourself up in mozzy repellent I brought a bulk load off eBay from a sweet lady if you want the link, message me as she does awesome deals :-D
Also, in Wilkinsons, they sell a Lemon body wash, you wouldn't believe how much that helps as well.
Also, one more tip, buy a small bottle of citronella oil, put it on cotton wool balls and leave them around the room & put a few drops on your wrist, ankles, feet & legs if yo go out in the evening, works like magic!
Beautiful gardens with a massive banana tree, grapefruit tree & mango tree in, which you are allowed to help yourself too if they are ripe!

Kachikally ist das Holiday Inn eine sehr schöne, saubere und sichere Unterkunft, es ist im eigenen sichere Anlage, es gibt einen gemeinsamen Wohnbereich und Küche. Die Zimmer sind Standard für ein Gästehaus und für mich fühlt man sich wie zu Hause. Der Besitzer und sein Personal sind sehr nett, sehr freundlich und nichts ist zu viel Mühe. Die Aufrechterhaltung eines guten Service und Standards, die Zimmer und öffentlichen Bereiche sind alle täglich gereinigt. Es gibt ein Internetcafe auf der Grundlage von innerhalb der Anlage. Ich stimme mit den vorherigen Kritiken überein, dass dieses kleine Gasthaus ist sehr schön. Ich würde jedem Kachikally Holiday Inn Gambia besuchen möchten, empfehlen.

I have stayed at this guesthouse 3 times now, and I really like it! It is as 'phillice' described, if you want to meet real Gambia but still be close to the touristic areas, this is the place. Or if you wanna avoid the touristic areas, that's so possible too. It's very close to the beach also, a short walk of maybe 5 min and you're on the beach. The rooms is exactly as 'phillice' wrote, they are spacious and clean. You also have a ceilingfan, all the rooms even the ones with shared bathroom n toilet. I have stayed in both types of rooms, and I think both are good. Since it's a small place, only 6 rooms, and it's 3 of them who shares. It is a very super place, I really like the staff, the owner is a really nice man who is easy to talk too. And you feel very secure at night, the night guard is doing he's job properly.
Maybe next time this will be YOUR accommodation??

This is for people who want to visit the real Gambia. It is down a side street, and you'd never find it if you didn't know it was there. There is an internet cafe attached which is very reasonable. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are spacious and clean, with communal lounge, dining and patio areas. It is self catering with kitchen facilities, some rooms have ensuite shower room and all have a fridge. We were very impressed with the accomodation, basic - but clean and perfectly adequate. Ideal base, very secure with guard on the door at night, but friends are welcome to visit.
