I've stayed at Chottu's Motel on 4 separate occasions between 2015 and 2018, the longest stay being 9 days. I find the place clean, comfortable, conveniently located and reasonably priced (currently FJD75 for an en-suite room with kitchenette). The hot water is solar-heated, so on rainy days it is less warm, but on sunny days the shower is nice and warm (in the summer I don't mind cold showers!). The kitchenette is basic but perfectly adequate. In the room there is an electric kettle and toaster, as well as double-hob gas stove, small fridge and kitchen sink, as well as a breakfast bar area. The room is somewhat dimly lit (although I find that to be typical of many places in Fiji), but airy and with a ceiling fan. Bed linen is old but adequate. Consumables provided and refreshed every day include toilet paper, soap, washing-up liquid, clean towels and tea-towel, matches, tea and coffee. The owner, Mukesh, is friendly and helpful. The motel is right in the centre of Naqara ("town") so it was easy to get ingredients to prepare our own meals. There are also eating places nearby when we didn't feel like cooking.

We stayed twice, once in the budget room and once in the private room. The budget room is very run down and small, but clean. Shared kitchen is fine and the showers are only cold water and kind of falling apart. The private room is much better value, with own living area, kitchen and hot shower. Also newer (did have a rip in the sofa). When we where there the water was not potable (as we were told). Overall fine, close to ferry, and there is a supermarket in front. There is not much to do in the area for tourist, better stay in Matei - nicer places just a little more expensive. The owner was very generous with us and we were very grateful!

I stayed here one night only because I needed to leave early the next morning on the ferry, which was quite close. I was charged FJ$50 for a small basic room with fan. In my opinion, overpriced for what it offered, but Fiji is quite expensive in general. There was a double bed, so a couple could have stayed there but perhaps they would have been charged more. The bathroom down the hall had only cold water and was in pretty bad shape, with tiny ants crawling everywhere. There was at least toilet paper and a little bar of soap was provided in the room. The owner Mukesh was friendly and was willing to keep my suitcase for a few days while I went on a side trip. There is a fridge at guests' disposal as well as a stove, and I saw other guests cooking their dinner. There is a big supermarket across the street, other shop nearby, and a bus station just a couple of minutes walk away, with buses in both directions around the island, i.e. towards Vuna or towards Lavena. There's also a bank in town, the only bank on the island, I believe. I had a front room, which got the sun and was hot, and it was just by the road, so it was very noisy all day and all evening. At night there was very little traffic. Personally I would not recommend this hotel, except for the aspect of convenience, as many of the resorts are remote and not near shops, restaurants, etc. This place served my purpose for an early morning ferry departure.
