Dear Oscar, The rough, winding road, a 2-minute drive off the main, has a history that goes back to the 18th century. Built by slaves of the British, and since asphalted, our road was the way made for the establishment of one of three (3) redoubts built at the foothills of Stony Hill. As oral history goes, our property, located at the top of the road, once housed the captain's quarters for this army post. What was the British protecting? In the days when sugar was king, and Jamaica provided the jewel in the British crown, the British feared that the French, menacing in the eastern Caribbean, might invade Jamaica from the south east. If they successfully did so, and entered the Liguanea Plains from behind, the plan was for the Kingston division of the British Army to retreat to the Stony Hill Barracks with the support of the defending army to hamper the invaders' progress. The ruin of the fort, with 3 canons still mounted in the garden, forms the foundation of the home of our nearest neighbour. (The Fortifications of Jamaica - David Buisseret) We at Neita's Nest, with a commanding view of sections of Stony Hill and the Liguanea Plains on which our city sprawls, are proud of this little-known piece of our history and, although detailed on our website, so regret not sharing this with you while here. That's our history. Geographically, we are in the city but not of the city; far from the madding crowd, so to speak. Being just a 5 minute drive inside the city limits to our north, and being elevated and off the main, we are perfectly poised for a rural look and feel while being a 5-minute drive from Manor Park, the nearest commercial centre south of us. Ten minutes further south and you are in the heart of New Kingston, our modern business centre; taxi fare to which is US$9 for those who prefer not to drive. With this positioning, we like to think that we provide the best of both worlds. And who are we now? Welcoming friends to our home has been our way of life. This house, built in the late 1960's and has been home to my family for nearly 20 years. Transforming it into a B&B was a cinch; a website and a Tripadvisor page, and here we are 7 1/2 years later! Great Jamaican meals and warm Jamaican hospitality are our hallmark based on who we are at our core, and the warming guest testimonials on Tripadvisor. Yours included. That is why we say, "Why visit like a tourist when you can stay with Jamaicans?" Thanks ever so much for staying with us, Oscar, and for taking the time to write your review! Michelle.

Taylor D, your brief stay deserved the baptism in who we are as a people, and we tried to cover all bases for you. From the city tour that we arranged on your drive in from the airport, to the authentic dinner from the local jerk spot, Chateau 7 Gourmet Jerk Centre, to conversations over dinner and quiet time after breakfast on the balcony with its breathtaking view! Yes, we are glad that you not only got steeped in our history and culture but found time to do your work. Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Neita's Nest for your stay in Jamaica. We are happy that you found your accommodation comfortable, amazing, fantastic (smiles). It was indeed our pleasure hosting you, even before your highly complimentary feedback. Thanks for being you. Thank you too for your lovely review here on Tripadvisor!! Cheers, Michelle.

jenniferm, Our 50% discount on accommodation and 25% off our 3-course dinners for a 7-Night stay is an attractive offer, and perhaps so attractive that you did not read that refunds are not given within 30 days prior Check-in. It was not our intention to elude you; neither would we have believed that you did not read your booking confirmation, where the terms are also detailed. After all, from your arrival, you remarked positively about the view, the ambience, the greenery all around, the birds in the trees, the rural look and feel, the comfort of our home, books to read. These, you said, were described in our website, and you expressed delight to be experiencing exactly what you came for. We are happy to know that some of our meals were a hit for you because our cook, Charmaine does prepare the meals with love and care, a fact that is borne out, review after review. We too are disappointed that not all were to your liking. You most graciously accepted our apology for the salad which had been tossed too early before you sat to dinner, a fact which made it lose it's crunch. We will revert to serving the salad dressing at the table. Neita's Nest is a traditional bed and breakfast, offering a home stay experience. It is not a hotel, and we have never promised a restaurant. Neither have guests ever asked for a menu. Our small family lives here and, as it has been in our home for generations, we prepare the same meal for everyone, mindful of any dietary restrictions that any may have. And so, in our Confirmation Letter we ask, among other things, that you tell us before arriving, whether you have any dietary restrictions. It is always helpful when our guests reply. We dedicate only three of our rooms to guests. Please understand, therefore, that when we honour your booking, we prepare for you and we turn away potential guests. When you advised that, regrettably, you would be checking out 2 days early, you explained that it was because your family, who picked you up every day, found our location to be too far from where they lived on Mountain View Avenue, the other side of town. You did not ask for your refund. Instead, you asked whether there would be a refund, knowing that the answer could have been a "yes" or a "no". It is perfectly understandable, that you would feel a measure of disappointment that we should stick to the terms of our contract which has a non-refundable clause. It is however unfortunate that, because we did not acquiesce, you would resort here to innuendos and untruths. We trust that you enjoyed the last two nights of your stay at the hotel of your choice. Admittedly, a bed and breakfast is not for everyone. Michelle. Owner/Manager.

do u have zip lining there
Dear Yanique, there are several zipline experiences across Jamaica but I know of none in Kingston. Neita's Nest is a traditional bed and breakfast, offering a homestay experience, and is quite different from the resort hotels and adventure parks such as Chukka Cove and YS Falls. Our guests choose us because they are looking for quiet enjoyment; to rest, relax and rejuvenate. The Treehouse on property brings out the quiet child in you, and is a great place for a massage. Our library is stocked with books by Jamaican and international authors. From our verandah, the view of the mountains that surround Kingston takes your breath away, and sometimes seem to transport your body, without the zipline. If this is what you are looking for, do give us a call. Cheers, Michelle (Neita) Owner/ Manager.

I am coming for a wedding in Mona-close to the UWI-is there any taxi service to this area.
Hello Kim-beach, Thank you for visiting our TripAdvisor page, and for your enquiry. There is definitely taxi service available throughout Kingston, and I would be only too happy to make the transport arrangements for you before hand so that all can be in place for your timely and comfortable arrival to the wedding. Do let me know whether you are the guest or part of the bridal/ groomsmen party and the number of persons so that there can be adequate seating for you and/or your party. With warm regards from Neita's Nest, Michelle. Owner/ Manager
