Hi Jim,
Wow you stayed a whole month! That's a wonderful amount of time at Triton bay! Did you see Whale Sharks and how often? Was there enough different foods offered in such a long stay? Please describe the food on offer - shellfish( many dive resorts do not serve shellfish), and steak? Frozen food?
Also I have not any information about jellyfish, some are beautiful and safe, others are extreemly dangerous. Did you hear or see any Box Jellys or the other dangerous ones?
Please also tell me about your topside adventures : did you see Tree kangeroo? Or Bird of Paradise?
Thank you
Last Question was the dive or snorkel boat easy to get on and off, and was the House Reef excellent for snorkeling or murky and not much sealife/coral?
Did you feel safe walking and swimming at the beach of the resort? last place we went we could NOT because it was coral/rocky and also stonefish, so noone stepped on the beach and walked in to swim...a disappointment , of course..
We were in komodo.
Thanks,
Kittyboy
Hi Kittyboy
I hope you are well and thanks for your interest in Triton Bay Divers. I am sure Jim will reply to your questions but thought perhaps I could also help.
The group that joined Jim were actually at the resort for nudibranch, so Whalesharks were not really on the agenda. They were also hear very early in the season before all the bagans had returned to the water after the east monsoon. They are however in the area and recently we have been getting more and more sightings which is great.
In terms of meals we try to vary our menu as much as possible. We are very remote and so are limited on what ingredients are available but our chefs are quite creative. We do not often serve shellfish but we do serve fresh fish as well as chicken and sometimes deer. If we are lucky we may also get beef but unfortunately we do not have steak available to us.
We do not currently have any deadly jellyfish in the waters around us. We do have seasons when we get large jellyfish come through but they are not poisonous and don't sting. Occasionally we will have small particles in the water that give a bit of a tingle but it is not often.
With 4 dives per day Jim and his group didn't have much time for topside activities although you can go for a walk through the jungle at the back of us. We sometimes, but not often, have tree kangaroos come down to the trees at the resort but unfortunately do not have birds of paradise on our island. We have a lot of hornbill and sea eagles amongst other birds regularly fly over our resort though. You can also arrange an excursion to see 100's of small limestone islands or visit a village - these are usually at least half day trips.
I will let Jim give his personal opinion about access into the boat, but I believe all guests had no problem during their stay. Jumping off the boat is no problem.
Our house reef does offer some snorkeling opportunities which are really nice especially by the two rocks at the entrance to our bay. We also have a hard coral reef with plenty of fish at the right side of our bay. I would say however, that snorkeling at the dive sites is more spectacular. Visibility in this area is very up and down. We have had as bad as 3m and as good as 20m it is very varied. But this is why we have such healthy coral life. Most of the dive sites have corals only 1-2m from the surface so they are easy to see whilst snorkeling.
Our beach is predominantly sand so easy to walk in and out the water. However we have occasionally had sightings of devil scorpion fish along the shallow water line so it is always advisable to step carefully. It is rare but you never know.
I hope the above helps and if you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact us directly
Leeza
Hi Leeza, I am getting some fine details and di not want to bother you with my micro(macro?) question! Everything, and All that I read and research about your beautiful resort sounds - just fantastic. We are looking forward to a visit, hopefully in January 2018.
My boat question was about getting On the boat. Is there a ladder for easy access back on the boat?
Jen
