. Curious if you were /or anyone was on a cruise excursion and had a good trip to Finca Vigia ?
Hemmingway's house is a must if you are in Cuba. I was not on a cruise nor on a tour- I was visiting family (after 54 years) and had a family friend drive me there.
We were not on a cruise, but on our recent tour to Cuba we did visit Hemingway's home at Finca Vigia. It is a beautiful place and very interesting. Our guide arranged for us to talk with one of the curators there and he translated for us. The man has been there for many years and is a wealth of knowledge about Hemingway and his family and the property.
I would highly recommend the visit.
Nice visit to his home on Cuba. We were on a tour from our cruise ship.
We traveled to Havana on our own. What we did was went to our hotel’s concierge and we arranged for a private tour of the Hemingway House. It was a complete day excursion for us, and the experience was well worth it. Whether you get to Havana by ship or plane, try to schedule a trip there if you can.
We visited Finca on a private tour. We were on a Royal Caribbean cruise. We arrived st 9:30 ahead of the 10 am opening. Wise to get there early ahead of the hordes of tour buses. We did some souvenir shopping in the neighborhood prior to the opening. It was wonderful. Not to be missed. Well worth the 5 CUC admission. House will not be open for viewing if it rains.
We were not on a cruise, but stayed at Memories Jibacoa (about an hour East of Havana) for a week and the visit to Hemingway's House was part of an eight hour tour to Havana, that we took with a private taxi driver/tour guide. Hemingways House was close to Havana and it was one of the best parts of the tour, but also Fusterlandia which is about 30 minutes west of Havana. If you enjoy art similar to the style of Gaudi (Barcelona), then you will love this neighborhood that has been turned into an outdoor art studio.
Hemingway house worth seeing. Can’t go inside but can see most of it through open windows and attendants will take pictures for you.
We took a tour called from Carnival called "Hemingway's Hideways" and his house was one of the stops. Definitely worth a visit. His boat is there also. Sits in a residential area on a bluff over-looking Havana. Our tour also went to several other spots in the Havana area where Hemingway frequented.
We were on a cruise last October and book a tour with Ernesto Torres. He picked us up at the port and gave us a wonderful tour of the area around Havana including a visit to Hemmingway's house. You are not able to go in, but all the windows are open and you can peak in and take pictures. There are plenty of employees there, who for a couple of coins, will take your camera go inside and take pictures for you. Ernesto gave us an overview before we reached the house so we knew what to look for. There is an original Picasso (not a painting but what looks like a ceramic relief) and a lot of hunting artifacts. Hemmingway's boat is also on the property. And if it's hot, or you need a rest, the mojitos there were fantastic. From here Ernesto took us to a small village for lunch. The village was what inspired Hemmingway to write The Old Man and the Sea.
