Well worth the 7 and a half miles trip up and down. We were lucky enough to do it on September 5, when it was 25 degrees centigrade in Enniskillen!

Last week I went to Cuilcagh for the first time and what a walk it was! I am not the fittest and the walk took me 1 hour 20 minutes to the top.
I parked in the official Cuilcagh car park which needs to be booked and costs £5 or £6 but this is right at the start of the trail and well worth using.
The view at the top is amazing. The stairs look awful but they are much easier on the legs than the gradual stairs leading up to them.
Definitely a must for anyone that likes to walk and enjoys good views.

Researched this walk before we set off, need good walking footware and a jacket, we had light lunch beforehand.
It does take 3.5 hours there and back, we started at the car park nearest. (2nd one up)
Toilets at nature reserve 1 mile past it but we made sure to use them first. Walk is tough.
Brought water and snacks. Views are amazing and really enjoyed th experience.

Beautiful walk, bring water and some snacks as it is a 3 to 4 hour walk if you're not in a hurry. But I strongly recommend for people to bring repellent with them. The midget bites are itching for 3 days and I read they might stay for 7 days. I didn't even knew that was a thing, but they are little flies/mosquitoes that bite and you won't feel it immediately.

Please please do yourself a favour and Google the closest car park to the walk.
We parked at the third furthest away car park and took a kilometre to get to the start of the walk.
It’s roughly 3km there before you get to the boardwalk. A lot of sloped hills in this part.
We were underdressed/ ill prepared today. The heavens opened and runners and light clothes were soaked.
Would really recommend bringing rain gear, and a second pair of runners and socks. Hat is helpful as well as it’s very exposed out there.

Access to the walk can be rather haphazard, with all the potholes and uneven dirt track. If you can manage that you can park right at the start of the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail. A snip at £5 for the whole day.
The gravel path meanders some 4 km up and down amongst peatland of the Cuilcagh Mountain. Then you access the wooden structure of the boardwalk that is designed to protect the ecologically important hilltop blanket bog from erosion.
The boardwalk section is 1.6 km in length and features 450 steps, some quite steep. This can be quite a challenge especially on the way down on the wet day.
There is a side boardwalk, near the beginning of the trail, for the less adventurous that provides good views across the boglands.
The weather conditions on the trail can be quick to change and can become rather inhospitable all year round. Bring waterproof gear, proper footwear and even gloves as it can get very windy.
The end of the trail is marked by wooden viewing platform with spectacular views, if you are lucky.

Great day out for young and old ,walk as far as you like or to the summit... good 2hr round trip .
Tip for sat nav ,just go to marble arch caves and not Cuilcagh as you will be brought 30 miles away from start of Boardwalk.

hello..
I am planning on doing this walk with my 7 month old boy. However, i cannot see any reviews with anyone doing a similar thing. We have all the correct equipment to hike with a young baby. I was just wondering if you knew of anyone else who has done it with a young baby? Or is it not recommended?
Thank you
Laura

what time do the carparks open and close at?
Verfasst am 11. September 2019
There is a private car park at the entrance to the walk which the farmer charges for and I gather he remains on the site until everyone has returned to their car.
We were there early in the morning and the farmer was there collecting his car park fee.

hI, no dogs are allowed anymore, to be fair it would probably be a bit much for most dogs anyway.

Approx 250 steps divided up into sections of 10-12 steps. This is not an easy walk but the views are worth it.

Where is best place to park, and is there a parking fee.
Verfasst am 27. Juli 2018
I think the best place to park is at the marble arch carpark. It's free!! Maybe adds an extra 20 minutes onto your walk, but the walk and carpark both free!! There are two carparks nearer the actual walk which the guy charges £5/€6 for, but I just dandered across from marble arch and it was grand! Enjoy your walk!!😊

Follow signs for Marble Arch caves from Enniskillen. Bear left at the caves and you will find the car park.
