A really fun museum for all ages. Almost always have a special event happening. Many interactive features for kids too. There is also a great café, which features a variety of food and drinks. I would definitely recommend that you go.

We went to this wonderful little museum in Hitchin, and were treated to a wonderful exhibition. It will continue until 30 June so try to go along and you won't be disappointed. It must have the biggest Toby Jug we have ever seen, and a lovely cafe.

Apparently, they decided that a Roman emperor was a transgender now. Other than Cassius Dio, which was his political enemy, nobody ever mentioned it. Moreover, the emperor was killed at the age of 18. This is why, although some are trying to reinterpret some history with a modern view, NO HISTORIAN ever gave credit to it. I am very disappointed and strongly unrecommended. Don't waste your time, there are hundreds of beautiful museums around the UK.

This well-designed modern museum is beautifully curated. We specially enjoyed the fascinating exhibition about the life and art of Samuel Lucas.

The museum is situated in Brand Street and is just over three quarters of a mile away from Hitchin station on foot.
There are plenty of local historical artefacts on show including plenty of fossils.
I enjoyed the art on display particularly the paintings by Spencer Gore, William Ratcliffe, Gerard Ceunis and Hilda Kidman.
There is also a small football related collection including memorabilia from the local team Hitchin Town plus items once owned by Sir Stanley Matthews.
The current exhibition on show is called The BFG in Pictures with lots of drawings and pictures by Quentin Blake in collaboration with author Roald Dahl.
I spent an enjoyable hour or so here and admission is free.

Visited again with granddaughter. This is her favourite place in Hitchin. The staff are welcoming and friendly. She loved the temporary cactus tunnel. Lots to see and do, not being local we learned a lot. Had lunch in the cafe. Very good choices at good prices. Toasted ciabattas were tasty.

This little museum has quite a lot to see. All very varied and interesting. Staff very friendly. A good place to while away a couple of hours.

We took our 91 year old Aunt for a prosecco afternoon tea on the museum's terrace yesterday. The terrace on floor 2 has lovely outdoor seating with umbrellas and plants. The staff were friendly and attentive and the finger sandwiches and cakes/scones were all freshly prepared and tasted fab. It was surprisingly cheap at only £16 a head including 1 glass of prosecco. Perhaps, because we were surprised to learn that the afternoon tea never actually included tea! I'd rather pay more and have tea/coffee included, or at the very least, the website shouldn't advertise it as 'afternoon tea'. Everything else about the museum, and the staff is brilliant.

The North Hertfordshire Museum is in HItchin Town Centre and is worth checking out for an insight into local history.
The exhibits are very much focussed on the local area of North Hertfordshire and there are various different rooms showing different aspects of life.
I particularly enjoyed the Paddington exhibition which was on display temporarily when I was there.
They also have a cafe and a gift shop. It's free to visit so if you have time to spare why not check it out.

Visited with four year old granddaughter and found plenty to keep all of us interested for over an hour. She loved the monkey on a bike, the dolls house and the interactive house through the ages. Interesting info about the black squirrels. Lots of interesting displays about local businesses.
