Fantastic place to see birds close up at the hide near the visitor centre, as well as many other areas around the lake to walk around and see more! Stunning views and great for all the family. Just gutted the shop has closed now as it feels slightly lacking as a result. But well worth the visit regardless!

The water tumbling over the spillway is amazing to see, even more amazing to hear. Take a walk over the dam wall.

The hide near dam is great, very close up to the feeders and birds, I went to photograph birds but it is not suitable, the windows don't open on the front, if they did they would band on the feeders they are so close, so no good for me but great to sit and watch.

Great views, fantastic walk to the waterfall. Nice food in the café, at very reasonable prices, but pity it had shut by the time we got back to it for a final coffee.

What a gorgeous place , we were flabbergasted by the view as we approached by car - ample parking and lots of kind folk dedicated to giving you information - don’t forget to drive up to the waterfalls very dog friendly

We have just returned home having had the most memorable day at Lake Vyrnwy. Our day started with a walk over the dam where first we found Liz who gave my eldest son (11) a bird spotting sheet and challenged him to find 16 species. We had a brilliant time bird spotting for the next hour and really enjoyed seeing the Siskins and Nuthatches from the hide near the cafe. On returning to the info stand when our 16 species had been found, Liz had been joined by Jan who told us about the lambing up on the farm. We hadn’t been aware this event was on, so signed up for it and had the most amazing time. We spent over two hours at the farm, learning first about the cows before going into the lambing barn where we gave newborn lambs a cwtch and then my son and husband had the privilege of helping deliver two lambs. Jan was a brilliant host, explaining life on the farm and the lambing season brilliantly and with great humour but she also spoke frankly about the realities and challenges of farming. We all learnt so much and for a spontaneous trip we could never had dreamt what a wonderful experience awaited us. Thanks also to Shaun who told us all about the sheepdogs and Jan’s two RSPB colleagues who helped look after us too. We made memories that will last a lifetime and will definitely be returning!

Great little hide, grab a coffee from the nearby cafe and linger whilst watching the many different varieties feeding from the feeders which are many in number and situated very close to the windows. Fascinating

A beautiful place to visit all year round. It was fantastic in the late summer. We took a stroll on the Blue Trail and visited the bench set up on the Campbell trail. What a view! We later returned in the autumn and the colours of the trees round the lake were amazing.

Beautiful views and scenic paths. Be sure to walk down the steps to get to the bottom where there are some picnic benches. Also walk past the dam and come across the other side. Would definitely recommend as a must to attend. Limited parking but we managed to find a spot at the artisan’s cafe which was the only place with WiFi to make any calls!

Hi. Thank you for visiting. We're so pleased you enjoyed your visit. Lake Vyrnwy is truly beautiful in the Autumn with the incredible colours of the leaves around the edge of the lake. Each season gives it's own touch to the reserve so whenever you visit, you're sure to be impressed. Artisan's car park is the smaller of the two car parks on site and is usually busy. The lower car park has an overflow area which is opened during busier periods and there are plans to extend and improve the parking over the winter.
