A very different experience
Aug. 2021
A very enjoyable visit to a smaller historic house and gardens and ideal for a quiet stroll when the more famous commercialised places are so busy. The house itself was not open (it is not large and is a family home) when we went but we could wander around outside to appreciate the buildings and there was a display to explain its history. The gardens are varied and when we went the woodland walk with hydrangeas in full bloom in the dappled sunlight below the trees was especially lovely. The vegetable garden is still in use and we were able to buy produce at very reasonable prices. Like everything there, this was done with an honesty box which suited the gentle atmosphere; how wonderful to find this is still possible.

take your own sandwiches!
Sep. 2021
As a kid i grew up a few miles from Belmont but never actually got to visit it, but now I finally did and well worth it. There are some lovely grounds, magnificent trees and the Victorian greenhouse and kitchen garden is well worth a look - I've never seen such huge onions! I particularly liked the Komodo Dragon , double life size, carved out of a fallen cedar bough. The tea room is totally self service, ie a kettle, cups and teabags with an honesty box - there are cakes [coffee and walnut, carrot, Victoria sponge etc] very nice but nothing substantial for a proper lunch so take your own - plenty of picnic tables and benches dotted around.

A lovey experience
Juli 2021
We went for the gardens only and they are lovely, very attractive and well kept on the whole, considering the problems with the pandemic. Café not open except for self-service, very trusting, which was so kind.

Wonderful place to Visit
Aug. 2021 • Paare
What a gorgeous place to visit, and the staff were lovely particularly Danielle Honey, who took us round the house, she said she wasn't a guide but she really should be, she did a wonderful job. Also, the staff in the cafe, just lovely.

Lovely day out with elderly parents can’t choice this category in who with

Had a lovely afternoon despite a bit of rain. The house is beautiful and the staff friendly and knowledgeable without being intrusive. The gardens are gorgeous and the willow trail good. From a child’s point of view I would say numbering the sculptures would help them follow the trail and be able to know who they have found. Cakes and hot drinks delicious

Wander like a guest
Aug. 2021
A low key delight. You might not see any staff as they have an honesty box system, and you are free to wander like a house party guest. The house is full of clocks, the gardens are innovative (I loved the new lizards carved out of the living wood of resting branches), and they are very keen on their veg.

Peaceful, interesting gardens.
Aug. 2021
We did not go into the house ( not sure if it is open to the public at present) but enjoyed wandering around the peaceful grounds. The gardens are interesting and varied, especially if you enjoy gardening. We particularly liked the extensive kitchen garden and Victorian greenhouses and the Walled garden. There's also a Pinetum, an orchard and a woodland walk. It's all surrounded by tranquil countryside.
It was exceptionally quiet when we visited perhaps due to current circumstances and it was also strange that there were no staff around. There is an admission fee of £7 per person (£5 concessions, £2.50 children 12-16 years) which we were trusted to put into a locked letterbox. The tea room was open but is self service and DIY; there's a kettle, tea, coffee, milk and sugar also a small selection of cakes, flapjack etc and packets of crisps. Again there is a price list and you are trusted to pay! Hopefully people don't abuse this. We sat outside enjoying our coffee and flapjack as there are plenty of tables and benches.

Beautiful Belmont!
Juli 2021 • Paare
We had been meaning to visit for a while but wanted to wait until the house had reopened. It was an incredibly peaceful experience with only a handful of people visiting at the same time as us. The gardens are absolutely immaculate not to mention extensive. The house didn't disappoint either even though we had to complete a self guided tour. Having said that, there were several staff members dotted around the house who were able to give us comprehensive information about the house and contents. We highly recommend Belmont and will definitely be returning!

A joy from start to finish - An intriguing house, stunning grounds and gardens
Juli 2021
We had enjoyed the 'Garden tour with the Head Gardener' just before lockdown and was in awe of the glorious garden and pasture.

At the first opportunity we returned to visit Belmont House itself and what a treat it was.

Everyone of the staff and volunteers, love their jobs/roles and that is reflected in the pride and affection they radiate when they introduce visitors to this warm and welcoming house. You can't help but feel that it was a wonderful home and all it needed was the laughter of children to complete the picture.

The portraiture is glorious - thoughtful, grand and revealing of those who once lived there. Every steward could explain and expand upon the special features of the rooms they 'minded'. We visited on a day before 'led tours' had started and spent at least 10-15 minutes in each room asking questions and having them answered with amazing knowledge and enthusiasm. One factor that put my envy to bed was that the intricately Indian carved furniture is cleaned with cotton buds!

We were treated to a visit to the 'Clock room' - which we will return to be able to hear the chiming and musical - quarters, half-hour and on the hours, at a later date.

After the house - a cuppa and a cake in the Courtyard. Blessed by lovely weather we then enjoyed the gardens and grounds. Great value - I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
