The most over-rated, over-priced state park I have ever been to. All of the loops were closed when we were there except two RV loops - we're tent campers, but they expected us to pay more than $80 for the night? We refused, and paid the out-of-state tent price anyway - which was still $48!!! No hot water in the bathrooms (thankfully, there was warmish water in the showers, which were not extra) and there was some really loud gathering going on in a nearby group camping loop with music pounding until 9 p.m. Never got a visit from a camp host.

I saw there were both pros and cons. There are NO full hook-ups and the communal bathrooms are too small yet the price is what one would consider above average for a state RV/campground/park that actually had full hook-ups.

On the "pro" side of the equation it appeared the staff was quick to clean a campsite after the patrons left. It was a very nice , uncrowded, camp area with easy backing and parking.

Nice trails and view of lake along the trails. Some beach access points on the peninsula trails as well. Plenty of restroom access and a nice visitor center. Good access for bike riding on the trail areas as well. Saw some camp sites being used by quite a few families. Will come again some day to do more in the area.

Lovely state park. Spent a day there where we did a hike, took in the views, and had our picnic lunch near one of the beaches.

We had a great time staying in McCall and visiting Ponderosa Park for the week we were there. We paid the daily fees to get into the park, we wish there was a weekend pass or 3 day pass vs season pass or just the daily pass. The park itself was great. Had so much to do there and it was very well kept throughout the park. The drive to the end of the park and the hikes were great. We put our SUPs in 3 different places and they were all just right. Seen lots of wildlife from trails and roads. It was very peaceful place to visit for sure.

We love Ponderosa State park. Our family has been having a reunion there for more than 50 yrs. This year was a little discouraging regarding campsite prices. 2023 site prices doubles charging $900 for a double and $500 for a single. The line item indicates “full RV services” which isn’t true and never has been. All rv users must pack up the RV to dump and bring it back to their campsite. Additionally, I’d more than happy to pay the extra money if I could see the improvements. The campsite we had, the water faucet handle was broken so we had to put duck tape on it to prevent from children cutting their hands on the metal. The showers were never cleaned in the time we were there and it didn’t appear they’ve been cleaned at all maybe ever. In the way down to the boat dock, one of the wooden steps is broken, which makes it difficult to walk the steep decline to get to the dock. We still love the park and payette lake and McCall but with doubling the prices and making a camping trip now cost the amount of taking our family to Disneyland I would hope to see the money being out to use for improvements.

This place is so pretty, lots of great hikes. The wind hits though, so make sure you have something warm for the top.

Wonderful park with very beautiful views. Everyone was kind and respectful of others space. The view at the overlook was absolutely beautiful. The only frustration was the key locations along the trails weren’t clearly marked. This park could benefit from some better/more accurate signage. Otherwise a great stop for scenery and a nice hike. This was somewhat accessible for strollers, but you might need off-road style tires. Normal strollers would struggle on the terrain. Some trails were paved.

Ponderosa State Park has two camping sections, the Peninsula Campground and the RV Campground. The spaces in each section are not uniform in size or spacing. In the Peninsula Campground, most have adequate distance between the spaces, but the trees are sparse in some so the neighbors feel close. There are some spaces that are close to the road and feel exposed, but it never felt noisy. The trees here are tall, but lack foliage at the trunk, so you get the shade but not the privacy,
The sites that are near the restrooms are so close that it feels like the restrooms are in your site. I would not recommend a site near the bathroom.
The Peninsula Campground is closer to the water and has a lot of families with kids and water toys. This section has a busy feeling with a lot of comings and goings as people go to the beach and picnic grounds. Many of the sites are very large and long, but there are boulders in some areas making it difficult to back in to some sites according to campers I spoke with. The camp host has acknowledged that even if the driveway is long, the boulders could be trouble for some. The sites are gravel and mostly level. The sites have one or two picnic tables, water, power and a fire ring. There is a dump station that serves this part of the campground, but there is no sewer at each site.
Of all the space at Ponderosa, the Peninsula Campground is not my favorite, but this is a beautiful and well-maintained campground by most standards. You will have a great experience here.
The RV Campground has two loops. Either of these loops is a safe bet for space, privacy and ease of getting in and out with rigs of any size. This is my favorite part of Ponderosa State Park Camping. This section appears to serve larger RV’s. The roads and sites are paved. A street sweeper keeps the loops clear. There are tenters here, but with sewer on each site, the motor homes and trailers do well here. These sites are very deep, almost all of them, and the companion sites are huge. There are no boulders to get in your way of backing in. There are a number of pull through sites as well. Taller rigs will not swipe the foliage from trees.
The trees are different at this section. They provide a lot of shade and a lot of privacy between the generously spaced sites. There is a group day-use gazebo with a BBQ. The restroom building is extremely clean and has a number of free shower stalls. The camp hosts do a great job of grooming each site after a vacancy. This is normally a mostly-full campground, but if you only stay one or two nights you might be able to find something. If you want to stay longer and have a certain site in mind, book early in the season.
Definitely bring your bikes. There are a number of biking trails as well as walking paths. Dogs are allowed on a leash, but they are not allowed on the main beach. However, I saw dogs off-lease on some of the shoreline away from the beach. McCall is a short drive for ice, supplies, dining, etc. There is so much to do at this state park.
If possible, try not to park directly under a pine tree. The squirrels begin shaking the trees at 7 am to drop the cones to collect later. It is a little unnerving listening to cones hit your car. For sites near the road, it is very quiet at both campgrounds.

Amazing scenery everywhere the eye can see. Rented ebikes in downtown McCall and rode on the paved roads through the park. Lots to see, even if you don't go off road.
