One of the coolest everyday museums I've ever seen!
I will say at the outset that the space of the museum is created artificially, specially “for the project”, and this adds to its advantages. It is located (it?) in the library building, which in turn is arranged in the huge building of the Prussian Archives.
The checkout and buffet at the entrance immediately set the mood (for those who remember it all :))
Then visitors are called to enter the apartment. Communal!
Why the whaler's house? Why the whaler? Before visiting this apartment, I didn't even know that such a profession existed in the USSR.
It turns out that the Antarctic Whaling Flotilla is a huge heroic page in the history of Kaliningrad and the whaling fleet. The Yuri Dolgoruki whaling base, which operated in the Southern Ocean from 1960 to 1975, made 15 fishing voyages around the world around Antarctica. Sailors went to sea for eight months, welcomed them all over town.
It was hard work, well paid. The whalers were indeed upper caste. All this is very interestingly told by the “voices of the residents” in the museum!
"The project “People’s Archives: the everyday of Kaliningrad 1960-80s” was realized in December 2017 – November 2018. An archive of the everyday of the “port period” of the city was created.
The original goal of the project was to collect and pass on to the younger generation memories of Soviet Kaliningrad, a city of sailors and fishermen. The idea of bringing generations together on the material of local history has proved incredibly fruitful.
It is thanks to the People’s Archive that the “human” voices of the audio-performance, which today guides guests through the museum’s exposition, were heard.
Things for the apartment were collected by the world, too. When I went in there, I just blew it. The daughters are small, we already threw it all away by the time they were born, the husband, because of regional characteristics, had a little different. And this is all mine!
From the corridor we enter the "neighbour's room". The whalers made great money, but the apartments were still communal. Neighbor is a farceman! :) In the closet are new (i.e. very old) company jeans with a tag! Someone saved it and gave it!
Very careful styling of the Soviet apartment, I can say this, as a person who lived for 20 years in the Soviet Union :)
The mood after visiting the museum is very nostalgic. This is our country with you, this is our bio!

- working hours are not respected (you may not receive the service)
- you may be forced to clean the toilet
- if you don't like something - just refuse service
- management ignores customer complaints

The stated opening time of the coffee shop is 8:00 p.m. On May 23, 2024, at 7:45 p.m., I went to the coffee shop and was told that the coffee machine had already been washed and no one would make coffee for me. The woman said she had things to do after work and she decided to finish it early today. I made a comment that the working hours are up to 8:00 p.m. and I spent the travel time navigating the hours indicated. Then all the staff at the cafe jumped on me, got hammered and caused a scandal.
On the said problem I appealed to the founder Alexander Bychenko. He said he'd handle it.
After which the attacks by the staff only intensified. On my next visit, I was told I had to clean the toilet because after washing my hands, I left a crumpled paper towel in the toilet. I was in shock. No one has ever made such remarks in a cafe in their entire life. According to the barista, she doesn't have to clean the toilet. Why I have to clean it is not explained. After I said I wasn't cleaning, I was denied service. The cleaning issue in this organization, I understand, is not settled and somehow clients have to listen to staff complaints about it.
On this occasion, I turned to Mr. Bychenko again - this time he simply ignored my message.
After finding out more about this institution, I learned that the Potanin Foundation gave money for its opening and it turns out that no one spent their money on the opening. Perhaps that's why management thinks that customers are cattle, who don't have to be served, or have their stated working hours, or respond to complaints. The staff believes they can refuse service on their own initiative (although they are not legally), bash, stop work whenever they like.
I urge everyone to ignore this facility in order to enhance the culture of service in our city.

Visited the museum, generally liked it, the idea was good, but there was a nasty fallout, as if it was a dull and boring Soviet past, where much was forbidden, it was not so bad. What is missing are these lovely dresses from the 1960s, Babette hairstyles, trips south on vacation, skating rinks in courtyards flooded by enthusiasts, movies like The Caucasian Prisoner, Saturdays and pioneer campfires, holiday life...The pioneer tie and school dress must be replaced - so dirty and old were not worn. Well, the price, lower the price, pensioners can also come, tell something and maybe even add a composition. There's work to be done.

On the website we learned that an exhibition of I. Brodsky is being held here, free of charge. We've arrived. It turns out the entrance is 200 rubles. Fine. Let's move on. The girl handed over the radio guide and then it began. The guide's recording, accompanied by his mooing, is terrible; the poems on the posters are impossible to read! People walk around talking, it is impossible to concentrate on poetry. I recommend that no one go to this exhibition, especially for 200 rubles. It’s better to read the poems of the Brodsky House, for free, and also find out a lot of other information about him, see his pens and watches on the Internet, than to walk around in a dark room with a pipe to your ear. Organizer of the exhibition, come up with something more interesting and educational for people, and not this meaningless and incomprehensible dialogue with yourself!!!

2. Don’t buy it on the website - it’s 300 rubles more expensive there.

The idea and technical solution of the excursion theater are good. But the collections themselves give the impression of, excuse me, junk. The last words of the whaler's daughter are very impressive.

No, a definite NO.
Before visiting this, check out what awaits you in the VK group🙈….
The name doesn't exactly match what you'll see.
You will have to watch and listen to the following:
just a few rooms, containing old things (from the era of the USSR and perestroika), ranging from furniture, household items and old clothes, ending with chewing gum candy wrappers.
You will be forced to stay in each room for 6 minutes, listen to strange recordings, you can touch with your hands all the things that are in the room, then when the recording stops, you can go to another room.
There are only 6 rooms, like: kitchen, children's room, bathroom, living room, dining room and... something else).
This is absolutely uninteresting, it’s even strange... this is definitely not a museum (well, that is, you won’t take away any knowledge or positive emotions for yourself), just a house from the past, nothing more, what does the Whaler House have to do with it, a mystery 🤔, you won’t get an answer to this question.
At the entrance you are greeted by an unfriendly woman, she is rude... She demands to leave your bags (in the closet), and then, God forbid you go to another room until the broadcaster stops his monologue in the current room, this lady will immediately appear, very displeasedly begin to be rude and throw up eyes.
On the way out, in a cafe, this same lady does not hesitate to discuss visitors with her colleagues, speaking about them in the third person in front of visitors, this is harsh, 😬 a woman definitely cannot work with people in the service sector, she simply does not know how to communicate...
It was a waste of time...

Today, 08/15/2023, I visited the museum with my sister.
We really liked the museum! The very atmosphere of the USSR is amazing! Almost all the exhibits can be touched, everything is great!
Except for one But!
Periodically, the light and sound in the rooms disappeared (this did not bother us).
The most unpleasant moment is the administrator of this museum.
A strange woman tried to spoil our mood at the entrance, asking us whether we were visitors or locals.
At the end of the tour, in the last room at the very end, sound and light were shown, we thought that the tour was over and we left the room, it turned out that there was a glitch in the program and the tour continued.
The administrator came in and started scolding us for leaving early.
We tried to explain to her that there was a failure, but they didn’t hear us.
Fortunately, she did not spoil our general mood and impression of the museum, although she tried.
The museum is amazing!
I advise everyone to visit and see!
It's really cool there and has an amazing childhood atmosphere!

Я в восторге от музея, от идеи и от ее воплощения!! Полностью воссоздан интерьер советской квартиры, очень интересная экскурсия в формате аудиоспектакля, сотканного из воспоминаний жителей, много фото, все можно потрогать, что бывает редко в музеях. Я просто наслаждалась экскурсией весь час. Очень рекомендую к посещению, если так же интересуетесь советской эпохой и любите эту тематику.

Посетили этот музей, т.к. были с ребенком и хотелось чего-то интересного, кроме классических музеев (а также потому, что видели в передаче по ТВ). Впечатление неоднозначное. Рекомендую тем, кто увлечен советской тематикой, советским бытом.
Музей организован в виде коммунальной квартиры, создан с нуля и от коммунальной квартиры там только двери и окна, само здание новострой и помещения внутри соответственно тоже. Если правильно помню, заявлено, что вещи 60-80-х годов, могу ошибаться, но много знакомых для меня вещей скорее 80-х годов, 60-х не такое большое количество (но эту тему оставлю профессионалам). Во время посещения музея нужно переходить из комнаты в комнату, посещение каждой из комнат квартиры сопровождается аудиозаписью с воспоминаниями о Калининграде и жизни в городе в те годы. Немного смутило аудиосопровождение в первой комнате- водка, выпил, девушки и все такое... Мы были с ребенком и это точно не то, что я хотела бы чтобы слушал мой ребенок в музее пусть и таком интерактивном. Странное впечателние также оставляет то, что можно трогать почти все вещи и открывать шкафы, ящики... Постоянно кто-то хломочет, что-то скрипит, все залезают во все потайные места, листают, как будто ты пришел к кому-то в гости и заглядываешь в чужие потайные места. Но такое впечатление скорее подчеркивает реалистичность и, наверное именно этого эффекта и хотели добиться создатели музея.
На входе- бахилы или тапочки, сумки на время экскурсии в старинный шкаф под ключ, на выходе совтеское лакомство- хлеб+масло, соль. Самая трогательная часть экскурсии- последняя комната, воспоминание дочери китобоя и накрытый праздничный стол.
Стоимость 600 руб для взрослый, для детей скидок нет, что для меня удивительно.
В целом, сходить можно.
На меня это место навеяло тоску, ничего нового я там не увидела, большинство вещей я видела в реальной жизни, а история китобоев хорошо было рассказана в передаче про этот музей.
Но это мое мнение, пожалуй, каждый должен составить свое мнение сам после посещения

Очень классный музей для тех, чья жизнь была связана с СССР, для тех, кто любит этот период и для погружения в эту эпоху. Музей интерактивный, аудиогид сопровождает всю экскурсию. Суть в том, что вы попадаете в коммуналку со всеми оригинальными атрибутами того периода. Я попала в детство. Супер! Ребенка-подростку было тоже очень интересно.
