This is one of the very best play areas for small kids. Located within Sydney’s Centennial Park, the whole thing is quite magical and it’s free.
There are all sorts of activities here for the adventurous child who wants to explore and climb and dart through tunnels. Equally, for the less adventurous, it is a beautiful space to walk through, with interesting little paths, quiet corners, hidden surprises and secret areas.
The highlight is the central water play area. Shallow pools with a number of fountains provide endless water play. Timed water jets prompt shrieks of delight as small children are continually caught unaware. It’s a very safe area. The jets are all very gentle and the water is so shallow that an adult can walk across the pool in running shoes without getting wet.
The whole area is securely fenced and there are plenty of spaces where you can sit.
There were only a couple of drawbacks. Firstly, it is reasonably easy to lose a small child if you have ‘a bolter’. The greenery along the paths is so dense that you can’t always see very far ahead and the maze of paths take so many little twists and turns, intersecting at different points that a child can dart off very quickly. The other thing is that the park benches in the more heavily shaded area, had quite a lot of mosquitoes.
Apart from this, the park was easily the best one I’ve seen in ages. Afterwards, take the kids to Duck Pond and watch the swans, ducks and fish. This is also a lovely spot to have a picnic beside the water.

This playground is an obstacle course of sorts with a bridge to cross that leads to a slide, a climbing tower, tunnels, water play area, bamboo forest, native flowers/plants and a picnic area with a coffee/gelato cart, there is lots to see and do for both the adults and the kids.
Note the water play area is not operating during Covid.
It is also fenced/closed in where the kids (ages 3, 9 and 10) raced around playing cops and robbers amongst the bamboo forest and hide and seek entertaining themselves whilst the adults sat and chatted (though one designated parent kept an eye on them).
A great morning or afternoon out where we easily spent 4 hours there.

Heard about this garden whilst looking for free things to do with the kids in Sydney. This is a well thought out place for play in the centre of Sydney (Centennial Park) just 5-10 mins drive from the CBD. Adults beware you will have to duck to walk through the Banksia tunnels as they are low, however there is an alternoute route around.
There is a dedicated area for water play in what I imagined looks a little like Bedrock from the Flintstones cartoon, but water currently turned off due to water restrictions and the bushfires.
There is a slide and wooden walkway bridge as well as more tunnels, a shaded picnic area and an ice cream van (of course) or at least there was in January. There is also a toilet block and ambulant toilet.
I was very impressed and I am sure that our family of 4 with kids ages 7 and 11 will visit again.

The Centennial Park gives home to this gem, which is a "green spot" within the green spot. An ideal place for the whole family to have a stopover and spend some time in this unique playground. The Water-part is a sensation by giving refreshing moments for the kids running up and down. The ice-cream van is a good idea... Strongly recommended.

This park is a rare find - a park within a huge park. For anyone struggling with a tricky day with the kids, pack snacks, change of clothes, towels/hats/sunscreen and you’ll all be relieved you did. It’s beautifully laid out and not like the standard playgrounds around. The gardens are beautifully designed for young adventurers.
You can go before or after to see the geese and swans at the ponds near by, run the kids around on the large grassy areas and Centennial has big tandem bikes for hire to pile the family in and go for a cycle.
Travelling with kids, this is a wonderful look at Sydney, slightly off the tourist track and the food at Centennial Park Cafe is solid, nice coffee. It’s a beautiful addition to Sydney that the kids will love.

A recent visit from our granddaughters to come and stay in Sydney for a long weekend to celebrate a birthday turned into a wonderful afternoon enjoying the delights that Wild Play in Centennial Park has to offer. Although limited in the actual activities the facility has to offer to entertain the children, it doesn't take long to get wild and wet. The actual
" natural playground " is up for a major extension in 2019 ( 4 times the size I believe ) so it will be enormous once finished. A whole lot of fun, the entry is free to the Park and into Wild Play and the kids have a blast. Children must be accompanied by an adult so take a book.
