We had a great day today at Bodmin Keep Army Museum.
There are some amazing exhibits and artefact's.
We had a trench talk with expert guide, Nick Kelly. He was amazing and his pitch to the kids was spot on. He engaged with all the kids and held their interest. His knowledge about WW1 was amazing and great facts that entertained the kids.
The reconstructed trench was brilliant for the kids to get an understanding what it must have been like.
Afterwards the staff were more than happy for the kids to put on uniforms and play with wooden guns in the trench.
They made our autistic son feel very welcome.
Thank you to all the staff who made our day a special one.

We visited in July 2024, Gill did her first guided tiyr with us, and it was great. She was knowledgeable, patient, and funny. Thoroughly enjoyed it, lots of artefacts, lots of information and things to see all relevant to local history. There is limited free onsite parking but really friendly staff, who want you to have a good time. Great value for money, I recommend going to see cornwall at war as well, as it links nicely... 2 very different museums but both well worth your time if you are into british military history.

We went here as a mornings visit, I have a love of military history and love a regimental museum. Looking round the museum it was full of the history of the regiments in Devon and Cornwall. There’s loads of information all laid out with a wealth of uniforms and exhibits backing and showing the regiments history. Top this with a decent shop for buying mementos it’s a decent way to spend a couple of hours at not a lot of money.

After walking out the train station we stumbled upon this little gem of a museum.
Packed full of history, artifacts dedicated to the history of the Cornwall Army regiments. Along with that helpful, friendly and enthusiastic staff.
This is a dog friendly venue, which is a bonus as we had our 4 legged friend with us.
For anyone that has an interest in military history I'd certainly recommend a visit.

Prior to heading west to Bodmin as part of a short break in Cornwall my research revealed that the museum had a section on the 1857 Mutiny/Rebellion and the siege of the Residency in Lucknow.
Having been fortunate to visit the Residency while on business in India I was interested to read that a young trainee curator had reviewed the displays on Lucknow and the siege.
I was pleased to see that it was not a wokeover but a sensible, sensitive and subtle change. Well done to her.
I found the rest of the museum interesting and well curated. On the day we attended it was just after the school holidays and we virtually had the place to ourselves which was great.
We were there for about 3 hours and had a great visit.

What a very interesting place, lots of reading to do but well worth it, very good exhibits concerning the history of the DCLI and an outstanding display of medals including 8 VC’s! It also houses a small but nun the less important exhibits concerning Harry Patch(including his Medals) if you don’t know who he was, shame on you and go find out.

i went to visit as we had a family connection to the barracks but like a lot of army bases over the years parts have been sold off for, housing estates warehouses etc, it seemed like a museum from my childhood in the 1970s so hard to compete with today's interactive places like the Bodmin jail tour (where they spent about 6 million !!!) friendly staff , great for a school history tour

Absolutely brilliant, a treasure of a place with so many incredible displays! Second visit and have again left amazed at what they have there, also found the second floor which I somehow missed last time, and the trench which my son loved playing in with the wooden rifle replicas - made his day to be in a real trench. We also booked the weapons handling which was fascinating and such a rare opportunity to hold some of the weapons they have in the museum, very informative and kept the kids and adults entertained. Such a wonderful resource to have in Cornwall, I reckon we’ll be there loads this summer and can’t recommend it enough!

Yes, we have a limited amount of free parking at the rear of the museum. There is also limited free on-street parking alongside the museum in Castle Canyke Road and a Pay and Display car park 100 metres level walk along Castle Canyke Road if all else fails!
