This place is as engaging as you want it to be. If you wish to be left alone for a pleasant stroll, you can do so. If you wish to engage with the reenactors to learn how craftsmen did their jobs back when, you can do so. If you want to stand along a fence line and talk to the animals, you can do so. And if you wish to get a history lesson just by riding a carousel, you can do so, and have fun while doing so.
If you've been to Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts or the Shelburne Museum in Vermont and enjoyed those places, you'll enjoy this place, especially when taken at a slow pace. It's as family friendly as you want to make it. We visited on an off season weekday, so we missed the crowds that fill Cooperstown during the summer. But if you are in the area, regardless of season, it makes a pleasant day.

At the Farmers' Museum one will learn about farming of days gone by, see many buildings, and learn about life in rural communities. The collection of antique farm equipment alone is worth a visit. The outside buildings and grounds are take care of for future generations to see. While there one may also see farm animals like hogs, sheep, goats, and cows, or take a ride on the antique carousel for a small fee. The Farmers' Museum is a good place for people of all ages.

My wife and I visited this museum on a lark after attending a weekend of wedding festivities in Cooperstown. We both enthusiastically recommend a visit to this museum because of the surprisingly interesting variety of exhibits (including a super fun display on the Cardiff Giant and the great carousel) and the beautifully maintained buildings and grounds but most particularly because of the high quality of the many costumed docents found in many of the buildings on the grounds and at the carousel. The docents were consistently friendly and informative. Favorite exhibits included the Bump Tavern and the wonderful collection of tools and wagons. Only suggestion would be to update the statistics in many of the information posters, which sometimes use data from the 1999s.

This place is really cool. There is so much to learn! They have everything from live animals to people in a blacksmith making stuff. Recommend for a fun, educational, and interesting experience for any family!

This former NYS resident by birth enjoyed studying all the state references and the art of the Empire State Carousel then riding it. The atmosphere of the “village” and farm is peaceful and nostalgic. I’d been decades ago on a school trip but it’s much improved since then.
I especially enjoyed the tavern and the Dred Scott decision exhibit in the law office of the local lawyer who was a Supreme Court justice at the time. The farm exhibit in the unusual stone barn is very informative, especially for people not exposed to farming. The weekend farces this summer sound fun. The Crossroads Cafe blends in well and the food is good.

Accurate without being silly. I loved Colonial Williamsburg when I visited years ago, but the docent staff were a little too into their characters. What was great about Farmers was the expertise of the staff but they were willing to talk like they were from this century. A truly enjoyable learning experience. A large and eclectic experience and I highly recommend . I didn’t expect to see the Cardiff Giant

Two of the buildings were part of the James Fenimore COOPER estate ; the balance of the buildings were relocated from other areas of NYS . Each building had some great history attached and were staffed with historians that made it all the better !

The Farmers' Museum is a great place for children to see and touch animals, look at life as it used to be, and experience the live exhibits of "how to" make things "the old fashioned way!"

The farm museum is fun to see for folks of all ages, not just an experience for kids.
There is parking at the entry and across the street. Apparently, it is also a stop on the local trolley. There is a store, but we didn't stop in there.
The main barn has various artifacts including a buggy and the Cardiff Giant. Along the way are displays of farming in New York.
The 1840's village was the real draw for us. Buildings from around the state have been restored and situated to form a village. Many of the buildings are open with artifacts and some staffed. Talking with the crafts people and watching them work is fun.
The Empire State Carousel is also here, and you can take a ride for only one dollar. The animals are all native to New York. They have a step stool to help you get on if needed! Around the carousel are many depictions of New York and along the carousel building are displays.
We had a good time. You can buy joint tickets for this with the Fenimore Museum.

What does it cost for a combo ticket to hall of fame and farmers museum?

I wasn’t aware of that option. I believe there was a coupon on the farmers museum website. I think we paid $10 each for two adults. It’s $1 to ride the carousel, which is a bargain.

Are the grounds walkable for elder folks who are mobile but may tire easily? Are there any helpful aids for moving from one area of the grounds to another, perhaps horse-drawn wagons similar to those that I've seen in some pictures of the Museum?

There are walking paths with benches along the way. There is also a horse-drawn wagon ... Percherons.
