This gem of a house is located conveniently across the small river which meanders round the Medieval hill town of Semur en Auxois. The lawn reaches down to the river and from the east facing terrace outside the kitchen door one can look up to the ramparts the old town towering above you. This terrace is a sun trap for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The evening view was my favourite as the sun lit up the town walls and buildings which reach up to the church and other ancient town buildings across the river
Less than 100 yards across the river by the old bridge there are steps winding up through a break in the walls leading into the centre of the old town where there are a small supermarket, baker, butcher, touristy shops and banks. The centre also has cafes and restaurants and it would be possible to have a great stay without getting into the car – as long as you were game for the steps.
