This apartment is well located a 5 minute walk from the U Street metro station (yellow/green line) and a 15-20 minute walk from the Dupont Circle metro station (red line). You can even walk to the national mall and museum area in 30-40 minutes. There are many restaurants in the locality and several supermarkets nearby, including a large Whole Foods 10 minutes walk away. In effect, the location is brilliant! We were also able to drop our bags off early before checking in mid-afternoon, which was helpful after arriving on a 9am flight.
The apartment is one of several the owner lets in the building, and this one is located at the back of the first floor (the entrance level). It is nicely furnished and the kitchen and bathroom are small but well set-up, with a full kitchen (fridge/freezer, oven, microwave, stove top, dishwasher) and a shower and bath in the bathroom. The main bedroom has plenty of storage. We would have found it a squeeze fitting 4 adults in the apartment as the living area isn't very large and expanding the sofa would take up much of the room. However, it could work for a family with young children and would be excellent value if booked that way. For 2 people it gives space to relax if staying in D.C. for a while, and makes an enjoyable base for sight seeing. The free WiFi worked well and there were Lonely Planet guides and maps available to use, which is always a bonus.

Trip Advisor rating is either average or very good. We'd put this in better than "average" but on this side of "very good".
Very nice accommodations with just a few minor “could be better”. Too many pieces of large furniture for a cozy one bedroom. There’s 3 or 4 pieces of extra furniture that we don’t see in the online photos. The chairs were metal – cold and rather uncomfortable after sitting for a while. It’s a one bedroom apartment, great for two, cozy for three, not sure where the fourth person would sleep. We couldn’t get the couch to “open” to accommodate two so it would be one person in the dining/living room.
The positives outweighed the minor “negatives”.
Getting access to the unit was simple enough and we felt comfortable as soon as we walked in. We were three adults, there for three nights and we got a good nght’s sleep every night. There was a welcome binder on the dining table with a bottle of wine. I think the wine was a welcome-to-DC gift (although we didn’t partake). The binder had information on the area (favorite eateries and local markets) and there were plenty of brochures and pamphlets on Washington attractions on the corner table. The bedroom was large and spacious. The apartment was clean, tidy and in a good location. Too far to walk to the National Mall since you’d want to conserve energy (we walked to the Mall the first night just to get a flavor of DC) but the Metro is only a block and a half away – by Ben’s Chili Bowl! A fully updated kitchen , Wifi, air conditioning, lots of closet space. There’s street parking but depending on your length of stay, you may want to ask Eva/John to help purchase a parking permit (minimum a week for $40) otherwise there is paid parking around the corner on 14th Street. It averaged out to about a dollar an hour – i.e. $12 for 7 pm to 7 am. Make note of the parking signs. Even with a permit, you need to confirm which side of T Street you can park on (dependent on which day of the week you are there). Eva and John were very helpful in getting us the permit (with very short notice!). Markets and coffee shops are within walking distance. I noticed a trip advisor forum on this apartment and the neighborhood – i.e. if it was safe. Like any big city be aware. I loved walking about and checking out the local businesses and didn’t feel threatened at all (daytime definitely not a problem, evening – just be aware as when you are at home). The apartment being so close to 14th, I was surprised at how quiet it was. Really easy to unwind after a long day of sightseeing.
We never met Eva and John but they were always in contact (email).
We would recommend for a couple.
