My husband and I had been to Algiers once before but never took a walking tour. We had no idea there was so much history there! There were only 4 of us on the tour (2 from each end of Pennsylvania) so Russell our guide was able to give us lots of attention. We stopped mid-way at a bar that used to be frequented by employees of a now defunct railroad yard and ended our tour at an English pub with a London phone booth as part of the entrance. (Dr. Who was prominently displayed inside). Our tour guide called his uncle to join us (who by the way is from London but has a B and B in Algiers) and we all sat down and had a few drinks together. Marvelous!

Hop on ferry for this tour. Highlight of trip to New Orleans. Loved everything about this place. Great history and beautiful houses. Of course, none of this happens without Russell Blanchard, who I think is unofficial Mayor over there. We ended tour at the most wonderful pub-like bar and got to thoroughly enjoy the company of his Cousin Kevin. This tour was a pleasure. Thank you, Russell!!!

Just a quick and scenic 2 dollar ferry ride from the main plaza takes you across the Mississippi river to the quieter side of New Orleans. Lots of quaint shops, restaurants and old historical buildings and homes. A nice couple of hours.

This ferry trip across the Mississippi ($2 each way - exact change) takes you to a quieter, less hectic part of New Orleans. Russell Blanchard meets you on the Algiers side and walks you through the historic old town. We stopped at the Old Point Bar for the history, a beer, and to cool off. It was hot the afternoon we crossed over. Russell knows about Algiers, and the people know him. After the tour, we stopped at Vine and Dine Bistro for a glass of wine, and would have stayed for dinner if we did not have reservations at Pascal's Manale in N.O. So if you have a couple of hours, and you want to try something different, book this tour.

This tour is a great way to see and get to know a part of New Orleans you might not otherwise visit. From the ferry terminal we proceeded to the levee, which offered a spectacular view of the river and the French Quarter and surroundings. Here Russell gives you a sense of the history of the area, on both banks of the Mississippi. Stops along the way highlight Algiers Point then and now. Especially appreciated was the mid-tour refreshment stop at the Old Point Bar, as it was a 90-90 day (90 degrees, 90% humidity)! You'll only regret taking this tour if you haven't allowed yourself some time afterward to do a bit of further exploring. (This was the case for me, as I took the tour late on Sunday afternoon.)

En dehors des tours classique, passez de l'autre côté du Mississippi! Et si vous aimez les guitares vintage je vous conseille un petit boui boui rempli de petits bijoux vintage sur pélican avenue! Énorme!!!!!

We had a fantastic guide to take us through this quaint and historic neighborhood. He provided us with a lot of the history of Algiers Point as well as New Orleans. Our guide also told us some interesting and humorous stories about some of the older homes in the neighborhood. Well worth the price.

An excellent walking tour of a neighborhood we like to call "New Orleans' best kept secret" - Algiers Point! Well researched and well presented, Russell knows his stuff! Take the free ferry across from the French Quarter and slip back in time a hundred years or more. You will not be disappointed!

I recently took this tour with my parents who were visiting New Orleans from out of town. We had a great time! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable not only about the neighborhood history, but also New Orleans history in general. The stories he shared were interesting and fun, whether you are an out of town visitor or long time local. Algiers Point has so much history and character. On our tour we were able to see the beautiful architecture of the neighborhood and the incredible views of the French Quarter from the levee. I recommend blocking off some time to check out the neighborhood shops and restaurants after the tour.

On our Thanksgiving Holiday visit to the Crescent City we decided to explore an area we knew little about and had never visited in a lifetime of trips to New Orleans. We took the Algiers Point Tours which began, and ended, with a wonderful ferry ride across the Mississippi River from the Canal Street terminal. Our guide, Russell Blanchard, was skilled at presenting just enough historical, factual information to peak our interest and understanding of the area's history. In all, this was the best choice we made during our recent visit and we highly recommend this tour for Louisiana natives and first time visitors alike!

Robert, Thank you for the great review! I had a great time walking the neighborhood and sharing our history with you and Carol Anne. I look forward to your return visit to our small town in a big city. I am pleased that Tito enjoyed his scenic tour and mini-vacation as well, I hope he has settled in back at home and wish him the best!
