Difficult to write a review for this. Firstly this is such an important piece of history and heritage. It is good to see that it is being protected to some degree. However, it is a shame that more isn't being done to restore. I guess it is a difficult line to draw between leaving it as it is for people to enjoy, or to restore and fear restoring it badly.

Wanted to see this for years so I decided this was the year. Last time I saw it was back when I was a child (late 1960s) so was expecting something bigger? I walked from Perranporth on the coast path through the sand dunes. No sign posts to direct you which is a shame so I asked for directions. Eventually I spotted a large cross in the dunes and the chapel is near it. Glad I found it but was it worth a special visit? Not really. If your walking that way stop and look but there’s not a lot to see.

Easy to find, best way is to locate the modern cross perched on top of a dune from there it is easily visible. Found it to be fascinating, imagining the folk that would of visited it and how it would fit in to the community, being one of the earliest Christian buildings in Uk one can only guess how the locals would of felt about this new religion being preached to them. The information board gives a good basic insight. Note when we visited the gate was open. Not far from the oratory lies the old church, follow the path inland through dunes, the old church is fascinating in its own right, if you head to east side of church you can still view the piscina. Right next to the old church is one of the oldest Christian way marker crosses in Cornwall, can imagine all the pilgrims that would of passed by. I also ponder on how many other things the sand has hid over time, throughout penhale sands.

Set in beutiful sand dunes of Perran Sands we stumbled across the Oratory and whilst the information board provided some interesting background, access to it is restricted and you can't get a real sense of the Oratory because it is blocked in by concrete block walls. My recommendation if you stumbled across this place spend 5 minutes looking at it but then walk on an enjoy the dunes they are truly stunning, as is the locel beach.

Although it is only the bare remains of an ancient site, there was still a lot to be gained by getting to the place and a quiet, contemplative spot was there.

Not an easy place to find but a wonderful walk through the extensive sandunes. Not a lot there to see but interesting to read the history on a board there.

Having walked through the dunes with the kids to find the big cross, a little further beyond we found St Pirans Oratory. There is a good information board which gives the history of the place.

Although we having been visiting Perran Sands for years we had only recently become aware of St Piran's Oratory and were looking forward to visiting it, my children (aged 14, 12 & 4 found it before i'd even had chance to go looking when they went to explore the dunes while we got unpacked etc! They had found it when they spotted the giant cross near by that marks its location.
We had great fun exploring the dunes, we are amazed at how much of the Oratory can be seen and as unsightly as it's breeze block surround does look it is certainly doing it's job to help protect the Oratory from the elements! The information board is a good read and very informative.
We also searched out St pirans cross and the church ruin, it was a lovely morning walk across the dunes and i'm so glad we made the time to do it.

We visited today, walking across the peaceful grassland, if a little flooded in parts. We were guided by the large cross near the top of the dunes and shortly after found the Oratory. Unfortunately, the site was partly flooded but the information panel gave a great insight into the history and key features of the site.
