This was my first visit to this theatre, and I was generally impressed. My chair was not particularly comfortable, but I had lots of leg room. The play, Bremen Town, was experimental but interesting, and also worth noting because it gave good parts to four senior actors, Oliver Dennis, Deborah Grover, Nancy Palk and William Webster.

I saw a show called School Girls and I absolutely loved it. All of it. The small theatre was filled to last seat. The story was touching but without the impressive performances of all of the actors in the ensamble it would have been uniteresting. Instead these mostly very young actors were excellent. I cried and laught. Would go back in hope to get another mindblowing experience any day!

Never knew about this theatre. Well located downtown with several eateries close by. Accessible by transit but we drove and found a parking lot across the street.
Once you enter, the coat check and washrooms are down a set of stairs. There is a bar and small stage/theatre to the left of the entrance. Then you cut across a “bridge” that takes you to another stage/theatre set up with folding chairs.
We came to watch the Sheridan College pop critiques and it was a great venue for these. The students got to perform in front of an audience....many seated and many standing and cheering/dancing in front of the stage.
The venue was clean and decent enough for a concert hall. Washrooms were kind of small and the water was freezing cold for handwashing.
Purchasing tickets online and via phone was convenient and easy, but there are service fees on top of ticket price.
Overall I like this place.

The black box theater was the right space and size for an excellent GLBT production. Adjacent parcel is currently a deep construction zone.

We saw Road to Paradise which was one of the most authentic plays we have seen in a long time
Simple set with a surprise "pop up"through the sawdust covered floor
The tension was palpable
Loved it!

Buddies!
Buddies is a bit of a local queer/theater queer-theater landmark. They do great theater( look at their website for their curated programming), some (also usually good) rentals for outside shows, pretty good arts-based community engagement, and club nights.
If you were an artsy-youngish (probably male) queer, you might end up here for a club night( if for "whatever" the west end was not happening that night).
Just be aware that the line-ups can get pretty long.
The dance floor square-footage is small, but it all works well at the end!
(Seriusly, artsy travellers, buddies has a more regular schedule for club nights).
If you are into theater, even more so queer theater, you just might want to have a look at their website. Rhubbarb festival (February) is cool if you are into new/experimental work.
If this matter for you: no one will really care which washroom you use( downstairs). ATM on site.
Pretty good bulletin board/ info rack for what's happening in the city(downstairs).
Pretty, and friendly, staff.
[Directions: either turn on the big dandy statue, if coming from church. Or turn on wendy's if coming from yonge. Look for the little park. ]

Went there for the first time to see a play. Loved everything about it. Simple, friendly, interesting, great space for an intimate play. Definitely lived up to their value mission of a safe, friendly, non-judgemental environment. Play was fantastic, audience was great. Will go back again for sure!

We weren't looking for a gay club but stumbled across this place as it was the only one that had music that we could find !! There was a $7 cover charge and when we arrived around 11.15pm it was very quiet. The staff were great and we were treated to our first drinks :-) By 11.30pm the place was getting busy and come midnight it was wall to wall dancing.
We didn't see the theatre part but if you are looking for a cool place for a few hours dancing, a few drinks and are not threatened by the gay scene and culture then stop by and take a look. We met a few new people and had an awesome time.

This is an interesting little venue mounting great theatre. The play was the best I have seen in a long time, and I am a regular theatre goer. Staff are pleasant and helpful and there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house.

Most travellers looking for a gay club in Toronto end up at Fly or maybe Crews & Tangos. But not a lot of visitors know that Buddies in Bad Times Theatre turns its space into a nightclub each Friday & Saturday night after 10:30-11pm. It's a nice change from the massive club anthems played at FLY.
I'd recommend Saturday nights. It's probably the most fun crowd in Toronto. It's a pretty young crowd. Mostly 19-30 aged. Not much drama. Just a group looking to have fun with friends and "buddies" to dance and Top 40 music.
It's not a big club. It's very no-frills: no fancy lighting or special effects. It's definitely the people that go to Buddies that makes it such a fun, friendly place to go.
Cover is usually around $7 cash
